iHateSplitwise is an open-source self-hostable expense splitter that emerged after the 2024 Splitwise paywall changes. It's good - really good for a self-hosted project - but the deployment overhead means it's mostly used by tech-savvy households. EvenRound offers similar feature breadth without the docker-compose step.

Data points reflect public information as of April 2026. Pricing, availability, and feature scope on competing products may change.
Most groups can switch in under ten minutes.
If self-hosting, export the database. If using a managed provider (some forks offer one), use their export.
Same name, same currency, same members.
Direct migration would require schema mapping. For most groups, just bringing forward the current balances is enough.
Or keep it running for the historical record if you have years of data you don't want to lose.
The short version.
iHateSplitwise is a beautiful open-source project - and we admire the rebellion against paywalled basics. EvenRound is for everyone who wants the same outcome without the homelab setup.
